AutoZone Assembling LLC built and supplied 50 box ambulances to the Ministry of Health in Senegal, each fabricated on the Toyota Land Cruiser 79 cab chassis and fitted to advanced life support specification.
The 79 arrives as a cab chassis, which means the body behind the cab does not exist until we build it. That is the reason the Ministry specified this platform rather than a hardtop or a van. A fabricated box gives a squared interior with full standing height and straight walls, so equipment mounts flat and a crew can work either side of the stretcher. A hardtop conversion cannot offer that, and a van cannot handle the roads these vehicles run on.
We built each box to take an ALS fit-out. Units carry automatic loading stretchers, oxygen cylinders with medical regulators and outlets, suction units, patient monitors, defibrillators, and ventilators, along with cabinets and secure storage sized to what crews actually carry. We insulated and air-conditioned the patient compartment separately from the cab, since a metal box in that climate becomes unworkable without it.
Layout took the most engineering time. Everything a crew reaches for during a live transfer had to sit within arm’s length of the attendant seat, and everything else had to be stowed where it will not shift on a rough road. We worked the positions out on the first unit and held them across all 50. As a box ambulance manufacturer in Dubai, we fabricate bodies in-house rather than buying them in, which is what lets us size a build around the platform and the terrain instead of the other way round.
