AutoZone Assembling LLC supplied 60 advanced life support ambulances to the Ministry of Health in Iraq, working through UNOPS during the 2019 procurement cycle. The vehicles were built on the GMC Savana 3500 extended wheelbase platform and fitted to full ICU specification.
Iraq’s health services have carried a heavy patient load for years, and the Ministry needed vehicles able to move critical patients over long distances without dropping the level of care available in hospital. Each unit was equipped with defibrillators, patient monitors, and ventilators so crews can stabilise and monitor patients throughout the transfer rather than only on arrival.
The GMC Savana was selected for the work. Its 5.7 to 6.0 litre engine, automatic transmission, and extended wheelbase give the payload and interior length an ICU fit-out requires, and the drivetrain holds up under the road and climate conditions the fleet operates in.
We run in-house after-sales garages inside Iraq, so servicing and parts are handled locally rather than routed back through the UAE. Ambulances continue to ship to Iraq each year for government bodies and humanitarian organisations working in the country.
